A Jin Shin Jyutsu Method for Harmonizing Lung Energy

In the ancient healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu, health is understood as the natural result of life energy flowing smoothly through the body. When these energetic pathways remain open, we experience emotional clarity, physical ease, and inner peace.
The lungs, in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Jin Shin Jyutsu philosophy, govern not only breath but also the emotions of grief, the ability to let go, and how we relate to the world around us.
When lung energy becomes disrupted, we may notice shallow breathing, lingering sadness, tension in the chest, or reduced vitality.

Below is a simple yet powerful Jin Shin Jyutsu practice designed to rebalance the lung energy flow and restore calmness to both body and mind.

A Gentle Hand Connection to Soothe and Re-balance

This method focuses on connecting two key energy points at the same time: Safety Energy Lock (SEL) 14 and SEL 22.

1. Prepare Your Space

Sit or lie down comfortably in a quiet place. Allow your body to soften and begin breathing in a slow, natural rhythm.

2. Balancing the Left Side

  • Place your left hand on SEL 14, located on the lower left front of your chest. This point is associated with the diaphragm, grounding, and emotional stability.

  • Place your right hand on SEL 22, just below your left collarbone. This is the starting point of the lung flow and helps open the breath.

3. Rest and Observe

Remain in this position for 15 minutes or longer, staying relaxed and simply noticing your breath.
You may feel warmth in your hands, a gentle release in the chest, or a gradual deepening of your inhalation.

4. Balancing the Right Side

Afterward, gently switch sides:

  • Right hand on SEL 22 on the right.

  • Left hand on SEL 14 on the right.
Hold for another 15 minutes or more, maintaining a calm, natural breath.

Why This Technique Works

Connecting SEL 14 and SEL 22 forms a harmonious energetic circuit.

  • SEL 14 acts as an anchor, helping the body settle and release tension.

  • SEL 22 supports the expansion of breath and regulates the lung’s energetic flow.

Together, they encourage stagnant energy in the chest to move more freely, helping restore emotional balance, deepen breathing, and strengthen overall vitality.

Practiced daily—especially during moments of anxiety, fatigue, or emotional heaviness—this gentle hand placement becomes an anchor of calm.
It reminds us that true healing often begins with simple awareness, the warmth of our own hands, and the quiet spaciousness within the breath.
