KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Kuala Lumpur police today issued a stern warning to any would-be troublemakers against causing any disruption ahead of the 47th Asean Summit being held here from October 26-28.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus stressed the importance of public cooperation with local law enforcement to ensure the smooth and successful running of the biannual meeting.
“Do not organise any activities that disrupt the event or block access routes to the event venue.
“Most importantly, refrain from any activities detrimental to public order,” he told a press conference at the KL police contingent headquarters here.
He also urged the public to plan ahead as several major routes in the capital will be closed in stages to facilitate the arrival and journey of participating delegates.
“The capital city already has a persisting congestion problem and we urge the public to either use public transport or plan ahead,” he said.

Fadil said all segments of society including law enforcement have a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success and that no compromise will be given to any quarters found attempting to cause disruption.
“This is a very essential programme for Malaysia and the world is watching us.
“We as law enforcement will ensure public order is maintained,” he said.
More than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed to carry out security duties for the 47th Asean Summit in the federal capital.
