A once restrained Fauci unleashes on White House coronavirus approach days before election
(CNN)As President Donald Trump fights his way through the final days of the presidential campaign denying the pandemic — by lashing out at doctors, disputing science and slashing the press for highlighting rising coronavirus case counts — the long-running rift between the White House and Dr. Anthony Fauci burst into the open Saturday night.

For months as Trump undercut his own medical experts, sidelined scientists and refused to take basic steps to control the virus while mocking former Vice President Joe Biden for wearing a mask, the nation's top infectious disease specialist held his tongue and took the President's attacks in stride as he continued to plead with the American people to socially distance and wear masks.

Drop future attempts at declaring emergency, Guan Eng tells Muhyiddin
Posted by: superadmin - 11-01-2020, 03:26 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to uphold the royal decree that rejected his request to declare a partial state of emergency last week.

“Instead of loyally upholding the royal decree as required of his capacity as prime minister, Muhyiddin has tried to justify the need for an emergency and appears to have not given up on making a similar request in future,” Lim said in a statement today.

In a special address yesterday, Muhyddin had said declaring an emergency in Batu Sapi, Sabah, and also Sarawak was the only way to stop the coming by-election and state elections there.

Muhyiddin said holding any elections now may cause a fresh outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

Be humble -- and other lessons from the philosophy of water | Raymond Tang
Posted by: superadmin - 11-01-2020, 03:08 PM - Forum: Self-Development - No Replies

How do we find fulfillment in a world that's constantly changing? Raymond Tang struggled with this question until he came across the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Tao Te Ching. In it, he found a passage comparing goodness to water, an idea he's now applying to his everyday life. In this charming talk, he shares three lessons he's learned so far from the "philosophy of water." "What would water do?" Tang asks. "This simple and powerful question ... has changed my life for the better."

Despite pandemic, quaint Kelantan village draws visitors in droves
Posted by: superadmin - 11-01-2020, 01:40 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

KOTA BHARU: Despite the gloom brought by the closure of the country’s borders since the movement control order was enforced in March, the sleepy village of Kampung Pulau Tengah, Kubang Kerian, near here, is seeing a boom in tourists.

The visitors are thrilled by this natural haven. The traditional village has become an agro ecotourism destination.

A village committee member, Mohd Hishammudin Ghazali, 38, said the natural beauty of the village has spread by word of mouth, attracting at least 500 people during the weekends.

He said this has helped improve the villagers’ income and made them want to improve their services to tourists.

CNN Polls: Biden leads in Michigan and Wisconsin as campaign ends

CNN Polls: Biden leads in Michigan and Wisconsin as campaign ends, with tighter races in Arizona and North Carolina

(CNN)Former Vice President Joe Biden holds an advantage in the upper Midwest states of Wisconsin and Michigan, according to CNN Polls conducted by SSRS, but the race between Biden and President Donald Trump is tighter in the battlegrounds of Arizona and North Carolina.
Trump won all four of these states in 2016, and a loss on Tuesday in any of them would make his narrow path to 270 electoral votes more difficult.

The polls, conducted as the campaign comes to its close, show little movement in the presidential race compared with previous CNN polls in each state.

The surveys suggest Biden has banked a broad advantage among those voters who have already cast their ballots by mail or through early in-person voting, with Trump leading by a wide margin among those who have yet to vote. The size of that bloc of later voters could dictate the outcome of the race.

In Arizona and Wisconsin, the poll results are roughly in line with an average of recent high-quality public polling on the race. The Arizona survey shows a race within the poll's margin of sampling error, with Biden at 50% support to Trump's 46%. In Wisconsin, Biden has the lead, with 52% behind him vs. 44% for Trump.

They also concluded that the rallies likely led to more than 700 deaths, though not necessarily among attendees.

Sean Connery, famed for playing James Bond, dies age 90 -- report
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2020, 09:40 PM - Forum: Celebreties News - No Replies

[Image: 201031083434-02-sean-connery-lead-image-super-169.jpg]

(CNN)Sean Connery, the Scottish actor whose five-decade long movie career was dominated by the role of James Bond, has died at the age of 90, the BBC reports, citing a statement from his son Jason.

Connery, who was awarded a knighthood in 2000 for his contribution to the arts, played the British spy in seven movies, beginning with "Dr. No" in 1962.

He wasn't just Bond, of course. Connery starred in an Alfred Hitchcock film, 1964's "Marnie," opposite Tippi Hedren; was part of the all-star cast in 1974's "Murder on the Orient Express"; played Indiana Jones' father, in 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"; and won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance as Chicago cop Jim Malone in the 1987 film "The Untouchables."

But like so many characters in the Bond films, he could never quite escape 007. He gave up the role twice before finally ending his involvement with 1983's puckishly titled "Never Say Never Again."
