PETALING JAYA: Veteran Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says the party will contest Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s Pagoh parliamentary seat in the next general election.
According to a report by The Malaysian Insight, Tengku Razaleigh, more commonly known as Ku Li, said Umno would contest seats it used to hold, including those lost through defections.

“My principle is simple, we will contest what was ours. Pagoh and Langkawi were our seats,” he said.

The Langkawi seat is currently held by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Jho Low Spills The Beans From Hiding In Macau!
Posted by: superadmin - 11-17-2020, 11:22 AM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

Rosmah netted over half a billion dollars worth of fancy diamonds out of the money looted from 1MDB, as did senior figures in Abu Dhabi. And guess what: Prime Minister Najib authorised the entire heist from start to finish.

These are just some of the key takeaways from the latest scoop from Al Jazeera, who have obtained an exclusive update on the fugitive fixer Jho Low’s whereabouts, which includes several of his recorded confessions in which he points the finger at key suspects over 1MDB, as he sought to broker a deal to secure his freedom last year with the Malaysian authorities from the past government.

The story has been aired overnight in a documentary Jho Low: Hunt For A Fugitive by reporter Mary Ann Jolly.

The report confirms that Jho Low has been receiving high level Chinese protection, residing with his entourage in the Macau home of a senior member of the Communist Party.

It also reveals he has been travelling the world as late as November of last year, thanks to yet another of a series of island passports which appear to have been obtained through the company Henley & Partners – the latest being identified as having been issued in Grenada.

PETALING JAYA: Recordings of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s conversations with government officials under the Pakatan Harapan administration have been published in an Al Jazeera documentary.
In the clips contained in the two-part special investigation titled “Jho Low: Hunt For A Fugitive”, Low, better known as Jho Low, turns on the others connected to the 1MDB scandal.

“I don’t believe there’s any wrongdoing,” says the alleged mastermind of the 1MDB scandals.

He suggests that he borrowed billions from 1MDB to buy luxury items, including high-end real estate, art pieces, a private jet and a mega-yacht.

MACC chief warns spectre of corruption, power abuse looms large on the horizon
Posted by: superadmin - 11-17-2020, 11:00 AM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said that the anti-graft body is expecting an increase in corrupt practices and power abuse in Malaysia in the coming years.

He said this is due to the vulnerable and complex environment that Malaysia currently finds itself in, but did not elaborate further, according to a report by The Star today.

“With the Covid-19 pandemic impacting the domestic economy, the MACC will focus on reducing leakage of public money and the return of ill-gotten proceeds through the recovery of assets,” he said.

Azam added that checking on leakages is essential as the government spends billions annually on the procurement of goods and services.

Report: Thomas says becoming AG showed him Malaysian politics ‘worse’ than he thought

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — Former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas said holding the highest legal office in the country had exposed him to the true nature of Malaysian politicians.
He made the remarks in a legal podcast that was reported by The Edge.

Thomas said he shunned political discussions with members of the Pakatan Harapan administration at the time despite his personal interest in the subject and his Masters Degree in International Relations.

“It was much more worse than I thought, politicians have their own code.

Video games 'good for well-being' says University of Oxford study
Posted by: superadmin - 11-16-2020, 11:01 AM - Forum: Computer Games - Replies (20)

People who play video games for long periods of time tend to report feeling happier than those who do not, a study has indicated.

The Oxford Internet Institute research focused on two games: Nintendo's Animal Crossing and EA's Plants vs Zombies.

In an unusual step, the developers of the games shared anonymised data about how long each participant had played.

These logs were then linked to a survey in which the players answered questions about their well-being.

A total of 3,274 gamers took part. All were over 18.

In previous research, data gathered about the duration of subjects' gaming sessions was based on self-reported "guesstimates", which can be inaccurate.

Analysts scoff at Mahathir’s unity govt ploy to block Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 11-16-2020, 10:06 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: An analyst views former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s consistent support for a unity government as just a ploy to keep PKR president Anwar Ibrahim from ever becoming Malaysia’s prime minister.

James Chin of the University of Tasmania’s Asia Institute said, as long as Mahathir is still around, he will do his best to stand in the way of Anwar’s pursuit of helming the top post.

He added this could be traced to the fallout between the two in the 1990s when Anwar was Mahathir’s deputy in the government.

“It’s nothing to do with a unity government. It’s basically Mahathir’s personal agenda to make sure that Anwar doesn’t become the prime minister. There’s nothing more than that.

“Even if (Mahathir) doesn’t become the prime minister himself, it can be anybody else, except Anwar.

“Even the 2018 deal (when Mahathir and PPBM were a part of Pakatan Harapan) was done in bad faith. Mahathir never had any intention of letting Anwar take over,” he told FMT.

Universiti Malaya political scientist Awang Azman Pawi said Mahathir seemed to be “stuck in his own world” where no one else but himself was worthy of leading the nation.

He said Mahathir had moved to bring down Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak because they did not follow his wishes, even though he had chosen Abdullah as his successor and later gave his blessing to Najib.

Funds for JASA nearly as much as 4 years’ worth, says Kit Siang
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2020, 01:26 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang says the RM85.5 million allocated for the Special Affairs Department (JASA) is nearly as much as the total amount given to the department in four past budgets.

He pointed out that when JASA was under the watch of Umno leader Puad Zarkashi as its director-general from 2015 to 2018, the department received a total of RM97.4 million in the annual budgets.

Lim quoted an aide to former communications and multimedia minister Gobind Singh Deo as saying that one of its agencies, the information department, possessed sufficient staff, expertise and equipment to dispense government performance and policies to the ground.

“Can the Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and the Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah then explain why there is a need to revive JASA?
