Once you land at JFK Terminal 8, you'll go through U.S. immigration as it's your first point of entry into the country. After clearing immigration, you'll collect your checked baggage and proceed through customs. Even if you're connecting to another American Airlines flight, you’ll still need to re-clear security before heading to your next gate. Unfortunately, you won’t remain airside after immigration. That said, JFK Terminal 8 is well-organized, and signs for connections are clear, making the process manageable for most international travelers.
