Choosing Between 2D and 3D Characters for Indie Games
#1
I’m in the early stages of developing a small indie game, and I’m struggling to decide whether to stick with 2D character designs or go full 3D. 2D feels easier to manage and can give a unique artistic touch, but 3D opens up more possibilities for animation, camera movement, and immersion.

I’m curious, what factors do you consider when deciding the right approach for your game’s characters?

Honestly, it comes down to your team and your goals. If you have skilled 2D artists but limited 3D experience, 2D can save a ton of time and still look amazing. On the other hand, if you want to do dynamic camera angles, cinematic cutscenes, or more complex animations, 3D is often worth the investment. Also, consider the style of the game itself, cartoony, pixel-art, or highly stylized games usually thrive in 2D.
