PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim says he has chosen not to respond to the many attacks against him by Mohamed Azmin Ali as he does not want to take things personally.
“I am not taking it personally. As you can see, I have not been responding to his relentless attacks on me,” he told Mingguan Malaysia in an interview published today.
“The people are intelligent enough to assess the actions of senior minister and international trade and industry minister Azmin Ali.”
He said his focus now was totally on the party’s political battles, which need a lot of attention.

IPOH, Mar 14 — Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming today urged the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council to allow the party to contest eight parliamentary seats and 25 state seats in the 15th general election.
Nga said this was to win back the state government which he claimed was stolen from the Perak PH coalition.
“We hope and request Perak Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi and Perak PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak will give away the requested seats to allow us to contest in the next general election and win back the government.
“And we hope this will be blessed by the PH presidential council,” he said in his speech during the Perak DAP party convention at Ipoh Convention Centre.

PN’s short-term gains, long-term pains from defections |

PETALING JAYA: With Dr Xavier Jayakumar being the latest MP to resign from his party to back the government, a political analyst believes that defections will provide Perikatan Nasional with only short-term stability.
Political observer Azmi Hassan, a former academic, said the few extra MPs would not benefit the coalition at the next general election as it now had to arrange for more seat allocations among its added representatives.
He expected this to “create turmoil” within PN’s component parties, as there could be clashes over certain seats.
“When (these MPs) won their seats during the last elections, it was not solely based on individual popularity but on the party they represented as well. So in the long term, it is in fact disadvatageous to PN,” Azmi told FMT.

PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has described the RM10,000 fine slapped on those found violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures as being too harsh and said it would badly impact the poorer folk.
The MUDA leader said he sympathised with the 330 people who had been slapped with such fines as of yesterday, as such “heavy-handed action” came at a time when most people were financially strapped.
The former youth and sports minister said while he supported the Covid-19 laws to curb the spread of the virus, penalties were imposed to help them reform and not to torture them.
“The SOP-related punishments are not there to make people poorer and suffer at the same time.

MP SPEAKS | The Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador and Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob should be the first persons to be arrested and charged under Emergency (Essential Powers) (No.2) Ordinance 2021 which came into effect yesterday for spreading fake news concerning Covid-19 and the emergency.
It should be applied immediately to them because they are holding top posts in the government and they are at the forefront dealing with Covid-19 and the enforcement of the emergency ordinance.
Their pieces of fake news have widespread influence and been acted upon by the police officers and persons authorised by them.

Can rakyat raise questions about government, asks Ramkarpal |

PETALING JAYA: After the new law on fake news came into effect, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh has listed several questions today, asking if they would be considered offences under the newly implemented ordinance.
Earlier this evening, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan had denied that the government sought the emergency proclamation because it had lost the majority in Parliament, calling such claims “fake news” and saying they were offences.
In reply, Ramkarpal asked whether it would be an offence if the rakyat were to question if the government had the majority support of MPs.
“Is it wrong to ask if this might be connected to the government’s advice to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to declare an emergency?,” he asked.

I think I'm goin' back
To the things I learned so well in my youth
I think I'm returning to
The days when I was young enough to know the truth
Now there are no games
To only pass the time
No more coloring books
No Christmas bells to chime
But thinking young and growing older is no sin
And I can play the game of life to win
I can recall a time
When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
And now I think I've got
A lot more than a skipping rope to lift
Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
Then everyday can be my magic carpet ride
And I can play hide and seek with my fears
And live my days instead of counting my years
Let everyone debate the true reality
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be
A little bit of freedom, is all we're left
So catch me if you can
I'm goin' back

YOURSAY | Self-interest is Azmin-PN’s only ‘interest’ |

Goliath: Senior Minister Azmin Ali, one of the main reasons why Perikatan Nasional (PN) is in such disunity is the fact that you and your band of Pakatan Harapan defectors had joined Bersatu. There were red eyes across the cabinet due to the fact that you were the one who initially destroyed Umno’s reputation in the last general election, pointed out the corruption in the BN government, thrashed PAS in its extremism views, and made a mockery of the entire BN component parties.
Yet here you are walking side by side with the prime minister, given a high-ranking position - the deputy PM seat is just within your reach - and given privileges by the main man not accorded to the rest of the Umno members.
Azmin, you should first provide a full public apology, tell the voters you had lied in the last general election about these parties and relinquish this high position of yours to your so-called Umno friends.
And maybe, just maybe, you can then be the agent of unity to this government that is not elected by the people.
