Angang criticised congratulatory messages from other parties to Ismail while hoping for a better Malaysia.  “How can it be better when it’s the same people from the same government that you want to better? “What is there to congratulate, to celebrate about? The country is still besieged by the threat of Covid-19 and the numbers of daily infections and deaths are at a record high. “Let there be no mistake that the instability the country is experiencing was caused by the internal squabbles for the premiership by the PN (Perikatan Nasional) government itself, specifically between Bersatu and Umno,” he said in a statement today. Angang said the country was dragged into uncertainties for months and was on the brink of a constitutional crisis because of the chaos created and power lust between the leaders of the PN government. He recalled that even Istana Negara was not spared their political squabbling and was dragged into the messy handling of the “so-called ‘revocation’” of the emergency ordinances. It says each aircraft in the sky emits a radio signal but constantly monitoring all planes over a large area is technically challenging. “Beihang Kongshi 1, a small satellite in near-Earth orbit, can update the status of an aircraft every eight seconds – about twice as fast as American technology, meaning the tracking is more accurate,” it said, quoting a report in the state-run Science and Technology Daily. Launched last November, Beihang Kongshi 1’s new radio surveillance technology and hardware, some of it being used in space for the first time, had achieved results that suggested it worked “quite well”, according to the report. The project is still at an experimental stage, but could lead to a global tracking system involving “hundreds of satellites”, the report said. The Delta variant has caused an uptick in infections, hospitalizations and, sadly, deaths, especially in parts of the country where vaccination rates are lagging. To add to this worrying trend, serious disease requiring hospitalization is affecting younger and healthier age groups, including children. What's becoming clear is that we, locally and globally, are not going to be able to stamp out the coronavirus completely. "But right now, because it's novel and so many people are not immune to it, it's really ripping through the population. Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy said there must be critical appraisal by the opposition instead to ascertain what really went wrong and why the numbers were not there. “Simply blaming Anwar for the political defeat might not be the wise thing to do. Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties must address the question of future leadership with a view to face the next general election (GE15),” he said in a statement today. Ramasamy added that Anwar might have his detractors but he urged the people not to forget that without him, the opposition would not even be in a position to consider forming an alternative government. “This is not the time for witch-hunting or putting the blame on one or two leaders. As far as I am concerned, Anwar is still the leader of the opposition. There is little difference between the number of MPs supporting Anwar and Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” he said. Yesterday, the King announced that Umno’s Ismail Sabri got the support of 114 MPs in the race for the post of prime minister. He will be sworn in this afternoon. Anwar could only muster the support of about 105 MPs. Ramasamy said the opposition leader is not perfect and must be held responsible for some of the strategic and tactical errors in the recent past, adding that he should not have “counted the chickens before they were hatched”. “Even at the present moment, it does not make sense why he trusted some of the Umno leaders for support, especially the court cluster.” He said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad might think that Anwar lost because he has lost support but it is easy to say this now, especially coming from a person who refused to hand over the post to Anwar as promised under the former Pakatan Harapan government. “Yes, Mahathir’s Pejuang might have supported Anwar, but it is a bit too late. Rather than cry over spilled milk, the opposition must seriously discuss its future plans. “More importantly, it must strategise how to win the next general election. This includes who can be trusted and what kind of alliances need to be forged. No leader is indispensable,” he said.
