Using the Gemini Mobile App (Everyday Conversational Translation)

This method turns Gemini into a personal interpreter for back-and-forth conversations, travel, or casual meetings.

Step 1: Open Gemini Live

1. Open the Gemini App on your mobile device or desktop interface.

2. Tap the Gemini Live icon (represented by a waveform/sparkle symbol next to the prompt bar).

3. Ensure your microphone permissions are granted so Gemini can listen continuously.

Step 2: Set the Translator Persona

Once the Live session begins listening, give Gemini clear initial context:

“Act as an interpreter between Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin. When I speak Bahasa Malaysia, translate it aloud to Mandarin. When you hear Mandarin, translate it aloud to Bahasa Malaysia. Keep responses direct with no commentary.”

Step 3: Conduct the Conversation

1. Speak clearly: Speak your sentence, then pause.

2. Listen: Gemini will process the audio turn-by-turn and speak the translation aloud in the target language.

3. Turn-taking: Hand the device to the other person (or let them speak into the mic). Gemini will automatically hear their language, pause, and speak the translation back in your language.
