We’re willing to work with ‘previous enemies’ but with conditions, says Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 06-06-2021, 03:51 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim today said he is willing to work with anyone, including “previous enemies”, but with conditions.

“We have worked with these enemies before. But with the condition to learn from past mistakes.

“And any promises made should not be allowed to be broken,” he said in his special message through Facebook Live today.

This comes after Dr Mahathir Mohamad said last week that his party, Pejuang, will not work with Perikatan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan in the coming general election. This is to avoid being hampered by any baggage carried over from these coalitions.

Anwar had previously claimed that he was duped by Mahathir in the succession plan during the PH era.

Today, Anwar said he was ready to work with anyone who wanted “to be good to us”.

Xiplomacy: Xi's vision of prosperous, clean, beautiful world
Posted by: superadmin - 06-06-2021, 02:36 PM - Forum: Environment Protection News - No Replies

Calling for the world's concerted efforts to protect the environment, tackle climate challenges and achieve harmony between humanity and nature has been ranking high on the agenda of China's diplomatic priorities, also an indispensible part of Xiplomacy.

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- This year's World Environment Day is being celebrated on Saturday. On this special occasion, a revisit of Chinese President Xi Jinping's vision of a "prosperous, clean and beautiful world" bears a particular significance for the protection of nature.

Calling for the world's concerted efforts to protect the environment, tackle climate challenges and achieve harmony between humanity and nature has been ranking high on the agenda of China's diplomatic priorities, also an indispensible part of Xiplomacy.

"Faced with unprecedented challenges in global environmental governance, the international community needs to come up with unprecedented ambition and action," Xi said when addressing the Leaders Summit on Climate via video link from Beijing on April 22.

"We need to act with a sense of responsibility and unity, and work together to foster a community of life for man and nature," he said.

As the world's largest developing country, China has been taking the lead in the global response to climate change.

China has announced that it will strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. It means the country will complete the world's largest reduction in carbon emission intensity, and realize carbon neutrality from carbon peaking in the shortest time in global history.

The task is extremely challenging, but China will deliver on its promise, Xi said at a video summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in April, while stressing that responding to climate change is the common cause of all humanity.

To promote effective global cooperation in this regard, China has put forward its solutions.

"We need to focus on green development and forge drivers of future-oriented cooperation," Xi noted in a keynote speech when chairing the China-Central and Eastern European Countries Summit in February.

Xi at the summit called on countries "to steadfastly advance international cooperation on climate change, jointly implement the Paris Agreement and contribute to the success of COP26 (the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and COP15 (the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties) of the Convention on Biological Diversity, both to be held this year."

Trump advances dangerous disinformation campaign as more states move to restrict the vote

[Image: 210606001415-02-donald-trump-north-carol...ge-169.jpg]

(CNN)Donald Trump's speech before the North Carolina Republican Party Saturday night was a reminder of the danger the former President poses as he undermines America's election system while attempting to reassert himself as kingmaker on the national stage.

His address to the party faithful was a familiar screed to anyone who tuned in to his 2020 campaign rallies. He attacked President Joe Biden's foreign policy maneuvers, claimed Biden is destroying the economy, insisted that he deserves more credit for the rapid development of Covid-19 vaccines, and argued that the radical left and "cancel culture" are destroying America's freedoms. But it was his continuing disinformation campaign about the November presidential contest that was most disturbing -- in part because the past few months have proved that Trump's lies are now accepted as gospel by a majority of Republicans.

At a time when followers of QAnon and online forums supportive of Trump have touted the deadly military coup in Myanmar as a remedy that should occur in the United States so Trump can be reinstated, recent polling shows that a majority of Republicans believe the 2020 election was stolen despite the fact there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

Covid-19: After losing his job, this KL daddy started a home-based food business

Covid-19: After losing his job, this KL daddy started a home-based food business and now feeds the needy as well

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Bruce Wong, who runs a food business from his home, was no stranger to the food and beverage industry.

He used to be one of the owners of local pub chain Tom, Dick and Harry and its sister restaurant Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock.

But he was not the guy in the kitchen. It just wasn’t his domain.

Until Covid-19 struck.

That was when he lost his job as the country manager of a co-working space in Thailand due to the pandemic. At the same time, the father of two became a father of three.

“My wife was pregnant and it was a bad time to go out and look for a job. I could only cook one dish at that time something I learned in Bangkok which was Pad Kra Paw, a Thai basil-based pork dish,” Wong explained.

His wife Liu Wen Hsuan had just given birth to their third son Brennan, and Malaysia was under the movement control order (MCO) which made hiring a nanny or getting help difficult.

And so Wong had to step up and find something he could do to earn money while also caring for his wife and three sons at home.
He taught himself to cook through YouTube; he would replicate recipes he saw online and tweak them until they suited his taste.

“It’s all maths you know. Basically, whatever you put into the meal, you must make sure you lock down the amount,” he said, relating his approach to cooking.

Tian Chua slams ‘blatant use of power’ over PKR congress
Posted by: superadmin - 06-06-2021, 10:10 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: PKR activist Tian Chua has questioned Putrajaya for stopping his party’s online congress, stating “it is a blatant use of power” by the National Security Council (MKN).

He said MKN was infringing on human rights as the congress was held online to ensure physical distancing.

Tian Chua, who is a PKR vice-president, accused MKN of “going overboard with the use of emergency powers”.

He said the decision sets an unhealthy precedent as MKN could now ask anyone to stop virtual press conferences, webinars or meetings. “It also means, anytime, they don’t like certain type of people or meeting, they can just instruct it to be stopped,” he told FMT.

MP SPEAKS | Deaths in custody - can they be stopped without the IPCMC?
Posted by: superadmin - 06-06-2021, 09:53 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 28dceda1c1c3586653fc03da5cbec0bb.jpg=s660]

MP SPEAKS | In Malaysia, one has been hearing the cases of death in custody for a very long time, especially in police lock-ups. Unfortunately, nowadays, the incidents of death in custody have risen to a crescendo.

Like it or not, they seem to have reached a five-alarm fire. Meaning, it is getting worse. And let me lodge this caveat first. Deaths in custody transcend any racial barrier. Regardless of who is the victim, any perpetrator who causes the death has to face the music.

For whatever reasons proffered by the relevant authorities on this issue, with due respect, they still cannot escape liability. In fact, listening to their voices in avoiding responsibility is more painful than hearing the news of the tragic death itself.

Any authority which is empowered by our law to detain and incarcerate any person in a custody has to keep this in mind this - such a vast power comes along with it a very heavy responsibility. In fact, this responsibility trumps everything else.

Trump returning to the stage as he flirts with 2024 presidential run
Posted by: superadmin - 06-06-2021, 09:47 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: files-us-it-politics-facebook-trump-frau...1622924144]

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Banished from social networks but no less influential among the Republican faithful, Donald Trump was set to return to the stage Saturday (June 5) for his first speech in months as he flirts ever more openly with a new presidential run in 2024.

"I understand the place will be packed, all records broken!" the former president, his flair for showmanship undiminished, said in announcing the planned speech in Greenville, North Carolina to a convention of that southeastern state's Republican Party.

Organisers said all 1,250 tickets to the evening event had sold out.
