In Japan, more people died from suicide last month than from Covid in all of 2020. And women have been impacted most
Tokyo (CNN)Eriko Kobayashi has tried to kill herself four times.
The first time, she was just 22 years old with a full-time job in publishing that didn't pay enough to cover her rent and grocery bills in Tokyo. "I was really poor," said Kobayashi, who spent three days unconscious in hospital after the incident.
Now 43, Kobayashi has written books on her mental health struggles and has a steady job at an NGO. But the coronavirus is bringing back the stress she used to feel.
"My salary was cut, and I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel," she said. "I constantly feel a sense of crisis that I might fall back into poverty."
Experts have warned that the pandemic could lead to a mental health crisis. Mass unemployment, social isolation, and anxiety are taking their toll on people globally.
In Japan, government statistics show suicide claimed more lives in October than Covid-19 has over the entire year to date. The monthly number of Japanese suicides rose to 2,153 in October, according to Japan's National Police Agency. As of Friday, Japan's total Covid-19 toll was 2,087, the health ministry said.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — Veterans’ group Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) has slammed the government’s purported plans to reestablish the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) as a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money, especially as the Covid-19 crisis continues to rage on.
Patriot president Brigadier General (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji said previous accusations of cronyism linked to PLKN were not addressed as nearly half of the RM8.43 billion spent on the programme went towards rent for the training camps.
“There was much criticism towards the training programme, including that the main objective to instill patriotism, foster understanding, harmony, unity, and a caring Malaysian society, had failed.
“Although studies might show the PLKN was successful in achieving a score of about 80 per cent in instilling patriotism, societal behavior among our populace for both youths and adults does not show.

I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone
Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of… Uh

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is set to put his maiden Budget to a vote today, in what could be his toughest political test since taking office in March.
The Perikatan Nasional administration tabled a record RM355 billion Budget 2021 on November 6.
The 2021 federal spending plan has been dubbed the Covid-19 budget, with certain ministries and agencies seeing increased allocations. Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said raising spending will help efforts to spur economic recovery and respond to the pandemic.
After three weeks of debate in the Lower House, the Budget will be put to a vote.

1MDB, SRC debts: With RM44.54b outstanding, here’s how much Putrajaya will have to pay in installments next year
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 — Putrajaya has to repay RM3.272 billion in 2021 in loan installments and interest on debts, out of a combined outstanding amount of RM44.5 billion of government-guaranteed debts owed by 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and its former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.
In a written parliamentary reply yesterday, the Finance Ministry said both 1MDB and SRC International faced a critical financial situation due to past scandals and misappropriation of funds, and that these two companies were no longer actively operating and are unable to fulfill the obligations of repaying debts that were either directly or indirectly guaranteed by the Malaysian government.
In such a situation, the ministry said the government would be paying off the next batch of installments owed by 1MDB and SRC International next year.
“For 1MDB, the total balance of 1MDB’s debt (principal and interest) on October 31, 2020 is RM40.87 billion, while the amount of 1MDB debt that has to be paid in 2021 is RM1.705 billion which involves interest/coupon payments for three bonds and one sukuk issued by 1MDB and its subsidiaries.

The Argentine Football Association confirmed the news on Wednesday and posted a short message on its social media platforms. A cardiac arrest is the result of electrical disturbances that cause the heart to suddenly stop beating.
"The Argentine Football Association, through its President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts," it tweeted.
Regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, Maradona became a household name after inspiring his country to World Cup glory in 1986.
He took center stage at the tournament with a memorable performance against England where he scored an iconic goal that he later described as the "Hand of God."
The diminutive forward out-jumped legendary keeper Peter Shilton and punched the ball into the net. Despite the obvious handball, the goal was allowed to stand because the referee did not see the foul.
Later in the game he scored one of the best goals in history after weaving his way past seven English defenders.
His glittering career was also marked by numerous controversies and his notorious lifestyle led to alcoholism and addiction.
Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez announced three days of national mourning for the passing of the superstar, and posted a tribute to Maradona on Twitter.
"You took us to the top of the world. You made us feel incredibly happy. You were the greatest of all. Thank you for having existed," it read.
Fans took to the streets across Argentina and in Naples on Wednesday to pay tribute to their hero.
Meanwhile, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said a minute's silence would be observed ahead of all European matches this week in honor of the Argentine.
"He will go down in history as someone who set football alight and thrilled fans young and old with his brilliance and skill," Čeferin said in a statement.
Maradona's family has authorized an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death, according to a source close to the soccer star.

As president of the United States, Donald Trump enjoyed unique protection from legal action, be it criminal or civil.
Now, after losing the 2020 presidential election, Mr Trump will soon become a private citizen again.
That means he will lose his presidential privileges, putting him in the crosshairs of litigators and prosecutors.
"Once he is out of office, the atmosphere will change," Daniel R Alonso, a former US federal and New York state prosecutor, told the BBC. "He will no longer have the reality or the threat of presidential power to thwart investigations."
A wide-ranging criminal investigation in New York is the most serious legal concern for Mr Trump and his real-estate company, the Trump Organization.
On top of that, there is an array of lawsuits ranging from allegations of fraud by a family member to sexual harassment by an advice columnist.
A legal storm is brewing. Here, we consider how the six biggest legal battles may develop.

(CNN)There's good news about coronavirus vaccines. At least three of the experimental vaccines show remarkable efficacy, at least according to information released by the makers in news releases.
Global vaccine giant AstraZeneca reports its vaccine prevented coronavirus infection 62% of the time when people got two doses a month apart. But in a subgroup of volunteers who got a half dose followed by a full dose a month later, the vaccine appeared to be 90% effective.
That averages out to 70% efficacy. The vaccines made by Pfizer Inc and biotechnology company Moderna appear to protect against symptomatic infection 95% of the time.
