US election 2020: Trump ally urges him to accept defeat in US vote
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2020, 10:34 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

A prominent ally of Donald Trump has urged him to drop his efforts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the US presidential election.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie called the president's legal team a "national embarrassment".

President Trump has refused to concede the election, making unsubstantiated claims of widespread electoral fraud.

Many Republicans have supported his legal efforts but a small but growing number have broken ranks.

On Saturday Mr Trump suffered a major blow in Pennsylvania, after a judge dismissed a lawsuit from the Trump campaign seeking to invalidate millions of mail-in votes in the battleground state.

In a scathing ruling, Judge Matthew Brann said his court had been presented with "strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations".

Goldman Sachs Have U-Turned On Transparency Over 1MDB Settlement - EXCLUSIVE!
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2020, 10:17 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Sarawak Report has learnt from sources close to the Goldman Sachs negotiations during the former PH government that the US bank had agreed as a starting point to commit to total transparency as the basis for any settlement over the 1MDB cases against it.

PH were looking for a far more generous payment for Malaysia, money that would have gone into the Assets Recovery Trust Account under the Ministry of Finance to be used to pay off the crushing debts still owed by 1MDB, which are a burden on the nation. No settlement had yet been reached.

However, shortly after their backdoor coup the PN government reached a speedy, cut-price settlement and apparently authorised a changing of the rules to include a non-disclosure agreement to prevent the details getting out, according to the PAS ‘Law Minister’ Takiyuddin Hassan speaking over the weekend.

The government has now used this as an excuse to slap an Official Secrecy order on the matter meaning that no one can be sure where Goldman’s $2.5 billion in hard cash has actually gone.

It makes you think, doesn’t it?

The first thing we are led to wonder is will 1MDB’s accounts suddenly once more also become an Official Secret, which was what previous government under Najib ordered to cover up their thefts?

After all, the vast majority of those in the present PN government were either directly supporting the convicted former prime minister in his thieving from the fund or secretly colluding whilst pretending to be in the opposition camp (i.e. PAS).

If the secret Goldman Sachs settlement money fails to be registered in 1MDB’s accounts as having been used to pay off debt then PN’s top dogs can hardly afford for the nation to know about it – particularly if the luxury vehicle loving clerics from PAS start sporting yet another range of brand new official cars.

Ku Li warns against political corruption to maintain power
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2020, 10:03 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, making a stand against political corruption, has said that he will not attend the debate on the 2021 budget while the legitimacy of the government had not been established.

In a letter to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Azhar Azizan Harun, he told off the Speaker for having made what he described as a misconceived suggestion to consult the law minister about tabling a motion of no confidence in the prime minister.

“To discuss the budget without first establishing the legitimacy of the prime minister and his ministers “is to compromise on an important constitutional principle”, said Razaleigh, who is familiarly known as Ku Li.

Such a compromise would have serious consequences on the upholding of the Federal Constitution and said it was a “possible use of political corruption to maintain power”.

Malaysia’s Chong Keat Aun wins best new director at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards for film inspired by Kedah childhood

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Malaysian Chong Keat Aun has added to his growing trophy cabinet after winning the best new director gong at the 2020 Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan last night, for his debut feature film The Story of Southern Islet.

According to the Focus Taiwan publication, Chong had, when receiving the award, thanked those who helped him to produce the film, as well as his parents whom he said may not have realised that his film was about them.

Focus Taiwan said the film revolves around a Chinese couple staying close to the Malaysia-Thailand border, and begins when the husband faints and spits up blood and a rusty nail after quarreling with a neighbour.

The story then follows the wife as she seeks out healing for her husband by exploring the spiritual beliefs of different ethnic groups.

Patriot slams curb on alcohol sales, says corruption more damaging
Posted by: superadmin - 11-22-2020, 02:20 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: An NGO representing retired armed forces officers has described the move to curb the sale of alcoholic drinks as ridiculous, questioning authorities if consuming it was more dangerous than corruption.

“We would like to ask the pious Ahmad Marzuk Shaary to tell us if drinking alcohol or corruption is the bigger evil,” National Patriots Association (Patriot) president Mohamed Arshad Raji said, referring to the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).

“Which is more damaging to our society and nation? Which evil attracts Malays most?”

Arshad asked Ahmad Marzuk and Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa to look at the large number of immigration officers arrested last week for alleged human trafficking and the many politicians currently facing corruption charges.

Umno, PAS and Bersatu must present united front to avoid three-cornered fights

Report: Umno, PAS and Bersatu must present united front to avoid three-cornered fights in GE15, says Tuan Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Umno, PAS and Bersatu must present a united front at the next general election or risk the prospect of three-cornered fights, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has said, as reported by Mingguan Malaysia today.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday edition of Utusan Malaysia, the PAS deputy president said political cooperation between the three parties is crucial to avoid repeating the outcome of the previous general election, which saw an Opposition-led coalition take control of federal power for the first time in the country’s history.

In the interview, Tuan Ibrahim was asked whether PAS had any confidence that its political cooperation with Umno, under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) banner, could wrest control of Putrajaya without Bersatu, to which he replied that each party has its own strengths.

“It is possible to establish a government. If we look at the projections, the formation of a government can happen with PAS and Umno minus Bersatu. But the issue is that it will lead to three-cornered fights. When there are three-cornered fights, there is a risk of marginal seats being split.

This anti-meritocracy budget must be rejected
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2020, 10:25 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

I know most of you will agree with this – Budget 2021 must be rejected.

Most of you might be angry with EPF and the moratorium. For me, that is a non-issue as there is a solid argument for both sides. But my reasoning on why the budget should be rejected is different – this silly government is focusing too much on creating jobs and providing training, instead of rewarding hard-working Malaysians to work even harder.

My argument is simple. It is not the government’s responsibility to create jobs and provide training for the jobless. It has been proven time and time again that the most efficient way to ensure effective training and quality jobs is by leaving it to the private sector. In short,

instead of the government allocating billions of ringgit to the jobseekers for jobseeking and training, use the money to help the companies and entrepreneurs by creating a more efficient free-market environment.

  Please, not another Mahathir administration
Posted by: superadmin - 11-20-2020, 11:25 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Despite the King’s appeal, intense politicking rages on unabated. Divisions are now so deep and personal ambitions so great that nothing will stop this insane game of thrones until one man rules them all. The welfare of the people matters little though, of course, they all couch their ambitions in terms of serving the people.

Truth be told, there are simply no good choices before us. All the front-runners are deeply flawed; none qualify as the leader the nation needs not just to tackle the Covid-19 situation but to lead our nation out of the morass we are in. We are a nation in deep distress, paralysed by internal contradictions and divisions and poorly served by our self-serving political classes.

But if you thought things couldn’t get any worse, think again. Dr Mahathir Mohamad has re-entered the fray hoping to make a comeback and become prime minister for the third time. Some dismiss this as wishful thinking but remember this is Malaysia; we are very forgiving of our politicians no matter how much they cheat,  swindle, defraud or kick us in the gut. After all, we are still cheering on a leader who robbed us of billions, so there’s no reason to think that a leader who betrayed our trust and has cumulatively done more to damage our nation than anyone else couldn’t make a comeback.

But please, before our largely gutless and unprincipled members of parliament flock to Mahathir’s banner once more, can they stop and think for a moment what another Mahathir administration would mean for the nation?

Most U.S. companies optimistic about doing business in China after Biden’s win
Posted by: superadmin - 11-20-2020, 10:46 AM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

Most U.S. companies optimistic about doing business in China after Biden’s win, survey finds
  • Out of 124 company leaders, just over half, or 54.8%, said they are “more optimistic” and 8.1% are “much more optimistic” about doing business in China following President-elect Joe Biden’s win, according to a survey by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai released Friday.
  • “The Biden administration would be a positive to the stability of the environment, the stability of the relationship,” Ker Gibbs, president of AmCham Shanghai, told CNBC in a phone interview.
  • However, uncertainty remains as only 13.7% of respondents plan to increase investment in China, with the majority sitting tight or undecided on their local development plans.

US election 2020: Biden says Trump denial 'sending horrible message'
Posted by: superadmin - 11-20-2020, 10:05 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: _115563389_dd51e606-7538-4ee1-ac6e-b9e1ab87e429.jpg]

US President-elect Joe Biden has condemned Donald Trump's refusal to accept defeat in the presidential election, saying it sent "a horrible message about who we are as a country".

Mr Biden said he was confident Mr Trump knew he was not going to win and had shown "incredible irresponsibility".

Mr Trump has launched lawsuits alleging unsubstantiated election fraud.

He has now also invited state lawmakers to the White House, hinting at a possible change in tactics.

Michigan's Republican lawmakers have been asked to meet him there on Friday.

All but one of Mr Trump's challenges has failed to make any real headway.

Mr Biden's victory margin in the public vote overall stands at more than 5.9 million. The victory in the US Electoral College system, which decides who becomes president, is projected to be 306 to 232.

Each state must certify its result over the next few weeks, although the deadlines vary. As the votes are certified, Mr Trump's chances of overturning the overall result will continue to dwindle.

Mr Trump would probably need to flip at least three states.

One possibility is that Mr Trump will try to get Republican-friendly state legislatures in key states to override the choice of voters and instead select electors favourable to the president.

But there was a fresh setback for the president on Thursday as Georgia said its recount had confirmed Mr Biden's victory in the state.
