PETALING JAYA: Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has urged the attorney-general to clarify why the case involving an allegedly seditious posting wrongly attributed to her has been classified as “no further action” (NFA).
The former deputy women, family and community development minister said she had been just informed on the status of her case by the police.
In a statement, she questioned the decision to call for a NFA, despite Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador revealing that investigations had shown the posting was linked to muafakatnasional.net.
“The fake statement made against me has caused a public nuisance. Why has no action been taken against the parties who posted the fake statement, even though the IGP has openly identified the mastermind?

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Selangor police have arrested a senior executive of the Sugarbook “compensated dating” service on suspicion of soliciting for prostitution and abusing network facilities.
Selangor police CID chief SAC Datuk Fadzil Ahmat confirmed the arrest that took place at 4.30pm yesterday at the Icon Residence on Persiaran Dutamas, according to The Sun Daily.
Fadzil said the police would seek a remand order for the executive today for investigations launched under Section 372 (B) of the Penal Code for the solicitation of prostitution and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) for misuse of network facilities.
On Monday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) blocked access to Sugarbook after issuing a statement warning users against the service and said action would be taken if authorities detected elements of prostitution.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today allowed Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa’s application to strike out a RM5 million defamation suit brought against him by former Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) professor Kamarul Zaman Yusoff.
Mujahid filed the application on Oct 14 last year after Kamarul filed the suit on July 28.
The suit was based on an article by Mujahid which was subsequently published by two news portals in 2017.
Mujahid’s lawyer Noorazmir Zakaria said Judge Rozana Ali Yusoff allowed the application and ordered costs of RM5,000 to be paid to his client.

Elizabeth Holmes resists government efforts to detail her CEO lifestyle |

- Elizabeth Holmes is hoping to keep her wealth, spending and lifestyle during her time as CEO of Theranos out of her upcoming trial.
- Defense attorneys said introducing Holmes' evidence of wealth to the jury will invoke "class prejudice."
- Holmes' criminal trial will begin July 13.
Elizabeth Holmes’ attorneys strongly pushed back against the government’s attempts to detail her extravagant lifestyle before a jury, saying the move “risks invoking class prejudice” that is irrelevant to her criminal case.
Holmes, who is facing a dozen criminal wire fraud charges, earned a salary and benefits commensurate with her position as CEO of Theranos, her attorneys wrote in court documents filed late Tuesday.
The government has argued that Holmes’ high-flying lifestyle was fueled by her fraud.
Her attorneys say that’s simply untrue.
They write the evidence says nothing about her motive, “if it did any CEO could be said to have a motive to commit fraud. Rather the real value of the evidence to the government is to paint a (misleading) picture of Ms. Holmes as a woman who prioritized fashion, a luxurious lifestyle, and fame, and to invite a referendum on startup and corporate culture.”

Former President Trump faces serious criminal, civil investigations after White House |

- Former President Donald Trump might have easily avoided conviction at his second impeachment trial — but he could find it a lot tougher to beat several serious criminal and civil probes that he’s now facing.
- A conviction would be an unprecedented event in American history, as no ex-president has ever been charged with a crime, much less locked up for one.
- Trump faces pending criminal probes in New York City and Georgia, and also could have criminal exposure to allegations that he incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in Washington, D.C.
Former President Donald Trump might have easily avoided conviction at his second impeachment trial — but he could find it a lot tougher to beat the several serious criminal and civil probes that he now faces.
And at least one of those investigations carries the potential for Trump to be sent to jail if convicted.
That would be an unprecedented event in American history, as no ex-president has ever been charged with a crime, much less locked up for one.
Trump, a Republican, whose spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment, has claimed that the probes are politically motivated witch hunts by Democratic prosecutors.
But judges in two of those investigations have repeatedly ruled against Trump’s lawyers in disputes related to evidence.

PETALING JAYA: The High Court in Kota Bharu today allowed an application to reinstate a suit filed by a Muslim teachers group to challenge the existence of vernacular schools in Malaysia.
Lawyer Shaharudin Ali, who is appearing for Ikatan Guru-Guru Muslim Malaysia, said judge Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh allowed the application to revive an orginating summons that was struck off on Oct 25 last year.
“The court has fixed Feb 28 for the next case management on the application by the Attorney General’s Chamber to transfer the case to a High Court judge in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
The intention of the application is to consolidate all such cases to a judge in Kuala Lumpur.
Shaharudin said his client would oppose the government’s application because “we take the position that the judge in Kota Bharu has the jurisdiction and is competent to determine the constitutional issues posed to the court.”
The plaintiff, Mohd Azizee Hasan, the group’s president, filed the suit on behalf of his organisation in February last year. He is challenging the constitutionality of Sections 17 and 28 of the Education Act. He named the education minister and the government as defendants.

Congratulations Mr Prime Minister!
You have hit the nail on the head when you said Malaysians should steer clear of politicians who manipulate racial sentiments for political expediency. To a large extent, this is exactly what has led to the depressing political scene we see before us now.
Launching the National Unity Plan and National Unity Action Plan (Blueprint) 2021-2030, Muhyiddin Yassin outlined the biggest challenge facing countries with a multiracial population: politicians who try to raise their political stock by exploiting racial sentiments.

PETALING JAYA: A former religious affairs minister says true national unity will remain elusive unless the country does away with race-based political parties.
Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who was once part of the now-defunct National Unity Consultative Council, said great political will was required to move away from a racial base.
Commenting on the national united blueprint launched yesterday, Mujahid said the philosophy behind the plan was “good and evergreen”, but added that “as long as we have race or religion-based political parties, ethnic and religious issues will always be exploited to win votes”.
“You cannot talk about national unity unless you disband race and religion-based parties,” he said.
