Washington (CNN)After violent pro-Trump protesters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday, a growing number of Republican leaders and Cabinet officials told CNN that they believe Donald Trump should be removed from office before January 20. Four of them called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, and two others said the President should be impeached.
"He has to be impeached and removed," said one current Republican elected official.
A former senior official said the President's actions were egregious enough to remove him even with such a short time left in his tenure.
"I think this has been a huge shock to the system," said the former official. "How do you keep him in place for two weeks after this?"

PETALING JAYA: Frontliners in Selangor are being pushed to their limits as they fight to curb the spread Covid-19 infections, even as the cases hit alarming numbers.
Yesterday alone, there were 965 cases, making up more than a third of the total number of cases in the country and frontliners are reportedly at “breaking point”.
One healthcare worker in Hospital Putrajaya, who did not wish to be named, said some of her colleagues were close to collapse with “patients coming in non stop” even after months of working during the pandemic.
“We are so tired and worried,” she told FMT. “Worried for ourselves and the families we go home to. To see people holidaying and flying around like nothing has happened makes us even more anxious.”
The biggest challenge in her work, she said, was dealing with misinformed or irresponsible patients.

Former President Barack Obama has issued a statement following today's violence on Capitol Hill where he implored Republicans to "choose reality and take the first steps toward extinguishing the flames."
"History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation. But we’d be kidding ourselves if we treated it as a total surprise," Obama said.
Obama added: "I’ve been heartened to see many members of the President’s party speak up forcefully today. Their voices add to the examples of Republican state and local election officials in states like Georgia who’ve refused to be intimidated and have discharged their duties honorably. We need more leaders like these — right now and in the days, weeks, and months ahead as President-Elect Biden works to restore a common purpose to our politics. It’s up to all of us as Americans, regardless of party, to support him in that goal."

The Attorney General for the District of Columbia Karl Racine called on Vice President Mike Pence to organize the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office.
"Whether you like Vice President Pence or not, the fact is he is more fit for office... we need a commander-in-chief that will fulfill his constitutional responsibilities," he told CNN tonight.
"I would ask the vice president, please go the next step," continued Racine. "Do your constitutional duty. Protect America, stand up for democracy, and invoke the 25th Amendment.
"That requires Vice President Pence to move and get a majority of the Cabinet or majority of the Congress to immediately remove the President because he so clearly is not fit for office," said Racine, earlier in the conversation.

(CNN)Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Juventus' 4-1 win over Udinese on Sunday to start the year in typical ruthless goalscoring style.
The Portuguese forward's brace took him to 758 career goals, edging ahead of Pele's total by one, according to Juve's official website. The late Czech striker Josef Bican is reportedly the all-time goalscoring record holder.
Despite the comfortable win over Udinese, Juventus still sits 10 points behind league leader AC Milan, but the Bianconeri can cut that deficit to just four points with victories on Wednesday in Milan, and in its game in hand.

BAGAN DATUK: Almost three-quarters of Umno’s 191 divisions have told the party leadership that they do not want to cooperate with PPBM for the next general election.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he respected the views of the 143 divisions and had called for a Supreme Council meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
Feedback on the need for cooperation with PPBM for the 15th general election was done via a WhatsApp chat group, comprising all division heads, he said, after officiating at the Bagan Datuk Umno division meeting today.
“As the president, I respect the 143 (division) leaders’ decision,” he said. The motions will be looked into, and need to be accepted by Umno leadership as they represent the voices of the grassroots.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s proposal to remove the systems supplier and network operator of the high-speed rail (HSR) project, was the main sticking point that led to the collapse of the HSR deal with Singapore.
Singapore’s Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said they could not accept this “fundamental departure” from the original bilateral agreement.
Speaking in Parliament today, he said that the removal of this assets company (AssetsCo) was Singapore’s main concern in discussions over Malaysia’s proposed changes to the project linking Jurong East and Kuala Lumpur.
The HSR project was terminated after Malaysia allowed the bilateral agreement to lapse on the deadline of Dec 31, 2020 with both sides failing to agree on a number of proposed changes to the project.
