About “The Wanted”

The Wanted were a hugely successful British-Irish pop boy band formed in 2009. The group consisted of members Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, Jay McGuiness, and Nathan Sykes.

Known for their punchy dance-pop sound, swagger, and soaring vocal harmonies, they quickly shot to fame in 2010 with their debut single “All Time Low,” which went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. They followed this up with massive international hits like “Glad You Came” (which cracked the top 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100), “Chasing the Sun,” and “I Found You”.

After taking an indefinite hiatus starting in 2014 to pursue solo projects, the band made an emotional reunion in 2021 to release a greatest hits album and tour, tragically punctuated by the passing of member Tom Parker in March 2022 after a battle with glioblastoma.

About the Song: “Stay Another Day”

While “Stay Another Day” is heavily associated with The Wanted, it is actually a cover of a famous 1994 Christmas number-one hit by the 90s English boy band East 17.

• The Original Origin: Co-written by East 17’s primary songwriter Tony Mortimer, the song is famously a heartbreaking ballad. Though wrapped in winter imagery and famous for its closing Christmas bells, Mortimer originally wrote it as a deeply personal tribute following the tragic suicide of his brother.

• The Wanted’s Version: In November 2021, as part of their reunion and greatest hits release (Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits), The Wanted put out a special cover of “Stay Another Day”. Their rendition leans heavily into rich, multi-layered vocal harmonies and polished modern pop production while honoring the emotional weight and iconic winter aesthetic of the original track.
